Country Music Star Randy Travis Releases First New Recording Since 2013 Stroke

Country music star Randy Travis on Friday, May 3, released his first new recording since his life-threatening stroke in 2013.
The country music legend took to social media to share the news of his song, “Where That Came From.”
“You’ll hear much more about the special team of folks who came together to help make this magical moment in my career possible in the coming week,” he continued. “In the meantime, just know that when it comes to me singing songs for you there’s always more where that came from. Thank you for singing along all these years. – Randy”
The “Three Wooden Crosses” singer released his new single on the eve of his 65th birthday.
In July 2013, following an upper respiratory infection, Mr. Travis, who lives in the small North Texas town of Tioga, was hospitalized for idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a chronic condition that weakened the singer’s heart muscle. While he was there, he had a device installed to help his heart pump blood to the rest of his body.
Three days after being admitted to the hospital for heart issues, he suffered a massive stroke that nearly took his life. Mr. Travis underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Doctors gave the singer less than a 1 percent chance of survival. He was later moved to a physical therapy facility where he began his recovery.
The stroke caused the singer to lose most of his ability to speak and sing, and he had to learn to walk again, although he still uses a wheelchair most of the time.
Early Friday morning as his new song was released, the Country Music Hall of Famer took to social media again, sharing another video clip of the song.
The seven-time Grammy winner also shared his gratitude for those who helped make the recording possible.
“Working with Kyle Lehning and Warner Music Nashville again has been so special and nostalgic, and I’m excited to share my new song ”Where That Came From“ with you today. Many thanks to my wonderful team and the best fans in the world for putting me back in the saddle again! I’ve enjoyed every moment!”
Mr. Travis’s social media post received loads of praise from fans who welcomed the soothing sounds of the singer’s legendary voice.
“A voice we didn’t know we missed so much until we heard it again 🥲🙏🏻🤍,” wrote one fan on Instagram.
“So many chills and so many tears,” wrote another fan. “It’s fantastic, @randytravis, and I can’t tell you how good it is to hear your voice again.”
The “Forever and Ever, Amen” singer also shared a video of his family listening to the song for the first time.
Mr. Travis and his wife, Mary Davis-Travis, have been married since March 2015, although they have known each other for decades.
In 2016, Mr. Travis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He surprised fans at the medallion ceremony by standing at the podium alongside his wife and performing “Amazing Grace.”
He has had 22 No. 1 singles, 31 Top-10 hits, and has appeared in more than 40 television shows and feature films.
Mr. Travis’s new song is available on Amazon Music, Pandora, iTunes, and other streaming platforms.
